S:  Parable of the Lost Son, Luke 15:11-32 NLT

O: The Parable of the Lost (Prodigal) Son describes the trust and Godly love a father demonstrated in his relationship with his youngest son. The father is portrayed as consistent and forgiving throughout the entire story. Although his son selfishly seeks his inheritance, moves away from home, then returns home asking for forgiveness after his fortune has been wasted; the love the father displayed was still that unconditional love of God. In the process of wasting his fortune to wild living (Luke 15:13), he experiences hunger during the famine. So much so that he longs to eat the same food he provided for the pigs. Upon his decision to return home, the son assumes the relationship he once held with his father would be severed. His plan was to return home, immediately repenting, and begging his father to become one of his hired servants. Despite the actions of the youngest son, the father welcomed his child back with open arms, eager to celebrate his return. This story is one of many that demonstrates the outstanding and forgiving love that God has for you. The misfortunes of the youngest son were caused from this own desires to live his life according to his plan instead of following the Will of God. In the mist of his greed, the father released the youngest son allowing him to make his own mistakes, but he never lost faith that God’s love would keep him covered. He also never lost faith that he would one day return to the place where he belonged.

A:

  • There is no mistake or wrongdoing that can occur that God has not already forgiven you for. But in order to be forgiven, you must seek forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 AMP
  • Use your mistakes to help others overcome the issues you once struggled with. It didn’t happen to you, it happened for you! Romans 8:28 NKJV
  • No matter what Satan plants within you to toy with your mind, SHIFT your perspective by reminding yourself of the promises of God! Isaiah 43:2 NLT

P: Father God, only you know and see my every fault. In this moment, I pray for your strength, guidance, and discernment as it relates to each and every relationship in my life. Help me to love with your heart as I strive to become more like you. Remove any captivity that I’ve placed on myself as a result to doing things my way and outside of Your Will. Shift my perspective, God, as I strive to live the life you’ve called me to live according to Your Will and Your Purpose! In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!
