Are You Too Busy for the Lord?
Luke 10:38-42 Good News Translation (GNT)
38 As Jesus and his disciples went on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha welcomed him in her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who sat down at the feet of the Lord and listened to his teaching. 40 Martha was upset over all the work she had to do, so she came and said, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to come and help me!” 41 The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha! You are worried and troubled over so many things, 42 but just one is needed. Mary has chosen the right thing, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Martha was so busy that the she didn’t recognize the importance of having Jesus in her home. She was so preoccupied with the tasks at home that she also wanted her sister to do the same. Mary understood that when you are in the presence of Jesus you sit at His feet and let Him feed you. Nothing else matters when you have entered the presence of the Holy One. I can imagine that Martha meant well. She wanted to make sure the needs of Jesus was met while He was in her home just like any good host but she still missed the mark. There is a good to man that is till wrong to God. Are you too busy doing good things that you don’t have any time to spend with the Father?
- When was the last time you spent quality time in His presence?
- What things in your life have taken your time away from being in the presence of God?
- What are you willing to give up in order to spend time in His presence?
- How important is His presence to you?
- Are you too busy for the Lord?
Father I admit that I have allowed myself to be distracted with the busyness of this world and my day-to-day tasks that I have not spent the time with You that I should be spending. I have neglected spending time with You and missed opportunities of basking in Your presence. Daddy, please forgive me. I need the help of the Holy Spirit to show me how to master my time by first spending time with You and getting my instructions for the day every single morning. Here I am. Speak to me Lord. Feed me Lord. Fill me Lord. Anoint me Lord. Lead me Lord. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
