S: Book of Esther

O: In The Book of Esther, the love of God is demonstrated with His sovereignty through all circumstances. To provide a little background, the story takes place post-exile and involves the Jews who stayed behind after most returned to Jerusalem after captivity. Esther, whose identity as an orphaned Jew is hidden, early on in the story becomes the Queen to King Xerxes of Persia (Esther 2:17). During this time, Jews were often beheaded by King Xerxes and his officials. However, Esther’s reign as Queen shows that there is nowhere that God will take you when he has not FIRST covered you with his Grace and Mercy. Esther’s courage is shown later by outwitting Haman, a high official of the King. Haman often voiced his strong hate and feelings toward the Jewish people. So much so that he convinced King Xerxes to have them exterminated (the beheading). However, the beheading of Jews simply wasn’t enough for Haman so he continued to work towards an evil plan that had the potential of having all Jews murdered. Mordecai, Esther’s guardian, learned of the plan and soon informed Esther. Although reluctant to help at first, Mordecai reminded Esther that she was also a Jew (Esther 4:13-17). He expressed that her placement as Queen was divined by God with the purpose of her rescuing her people. Remember, God has placed you where you are in life with the purpose and intend for you to later glorify Him and His timing. God’s timing is a time given for you to act with courage to do what you know is right. Because of Esther’s courage, she saved her people and Haman was later hanged on the very instrument of execution he planned to hang Mordecai on.

A:

  • No matter what your now looks like, remember God has a plan for your life! Your now is only temporary, things will not always feel good or look good, but it will work for your good! Jeremiah 29:11 NLT, Romans 8:28 MEV
  • God uses everything and everyone for HIS Divine purpose. Even when you cannot see it, God is still in control. Hebrews 2:8 MEV
  • Although it is not discussed above, Esther, Mordecai, and the Jews, fasted and prayed before she went to the King. You should pray and fast when beseeching God for help. Esther 4:16 NLT, Acts 14:23 ESV
  • Stand in courage! God will not take you where HIS Grace and Mercy does not protect you. Ester 4:14 NLT, John 15:4 NIV, Philippians 1:6 NIV

P:
Father, Your Word calls for me to be confident that if you began a good work in me, I will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Lord, give me the strength, courage, and confidence needed to be a vessel for your divine purpose. Fill me up with more of you, enabling me to remove my flesh. Lead me, and guide me, Father God, as I execute the things you have called for me to do. In Jesus’ Name, AMEN!
