1 John 4:10 (CEV)
Real love isn’t our love for God, but his love for us. God sent his Son to be the sacrifice by which our sins are forgiven.
Have you ever boasted about your love to God for someone? Not in a mean way or as if you have arrived but you were just excited that you finally got to the place that you truly love God. Do you know of anyone who often talks about how much they love God? There is nothing wrong with your expression of love towards God. Do we really know and understand the definition of real love?
The first 7 words of this verse will make you stop in your tracks. David Guzik writes in the Blue Letter Bible commentary, “Our love for God doesn’t really say anything great about us. It is only the common sense response to knowing and receiving the love of God.” When you come to know God in the form of a relationship, you realize that He didn’t just tell you that He loved you, He showed it with the greatest act of love.
Instead of us boasting how much we love God, let us boast about how much God loves us! There will never be a more perfect love that the one He has for us. His love has forgiven us! His love has redeemed us! His love is enduring and because of His love, He is coming back again! What kind of love is this? The only one that will ever complete us!
Father thank you for the everlasting love that you have for me. Thank you for allowing your only Son to die for my sins so that I may be forgiven. Thank you for your enduring love that lasts through all eternity! In Jesus name I pray, amen!
