John 10:14-15 (NLT)
“I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep.
In the first half of this chapter, Jesus is talking to His disciples and telling them the difference between the Good Shepherd and a hireling. Then He reveals to them that He is the Good Shepherd. A good shepherd knows his sheep and they know him. A good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep. Hirelings will run when he sees danger and leave the sheep to defend for themselves. A hireling does not have the best interest of the sheep in mind. He is only doing it as long as it benefits him. He is not willing to sacrifice anything for the sheep. The hireling does not love the sheep.
Thanks be to God that we know who are Good Shepherd is. You never have to worry about being alone or afraid because He is the gatekeeper of your life. There is nothing that will scare Him away from you! People will come and go in our lives for many different reasons but God is not one of them. He will lead you to green pastures and still waters. He knows every need you have in life and has already provided for them. His purpose is the opposite of the enemy. The Good Shepherd loves His sheep more than He loves Himself.
Father, thank you for being my Good Shepherd. Thank you for protecting me from the enemy. Thank you for providing my every need. Thank you for sacrificing your live so that I may live more abundantly! In Jesus name, amen!
