Genesis 3: 22-24 (NASB)
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat and live for ever, therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim and a flaming sword which turned every way to keep the way of the tree of life.
God created man in His likeness and image. He gave man dominion over everything in the earth. There was only one thing that man could not do and that was to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The consequence of eating from this tree was death. Not a physical death but a spiritual one. There would be a disconnect between God and man that man would not be able to reconcile. After man committed this treason against God, we see the first signs of grace being extended to mankind. God had every right to destroy man for their disobedience but He chose to grant grace because of His unconditional love towards them. That grace came in the form of banishment from Eden. God protected man from something that he could not handle. When sin entered the world, there was no more self-control.
Has God ever had to protect you from making more mistakes in your life by removing something out of your life? Sometimes our view can be one-sided and blurred. We only like to see what we want to see instead of trying to understand God’s point of view on the situation. Learn from the lessons in Eden so that you don’t have to experience the power of God’s love in an unfavorable way. When God says no, He means it. Walk away from it and let it go!
Father, I thank you for the power of your life. It is unfailing and always faithful even when I am not. Please forgive me for the times that I have been disobedient and then blamed you or others for my trials. Help me to see things the way you see them and to live my life according to your holy word. In Jesus name I pray, amen!
