Isaiah 54:10 (NLT)
For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you.
Israel had to go through a season where it felt like God had forsaken them. Their disobedience to His Word led them to captivity where they felt shame, disgrace and humiliation. It was necessary for them to go through this punishment in order for them to draw closer to God. It was in their despair that they saw and felt the error of their ways but even in captivity God gave them a word of encouragement about their future.
We too, like Israel, will have to suffer from time to time because of our willingly disobedience to God. It doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t look good. It does not always bring out the best in us. What kind of God would He be if He did not discipline us when we are wrong? Even in His discipline, His love is still faithful. No matter how much wrong we may do in our lifetime, it will never be too much for the love of God to cover us. His mercy and His grace are everlasting! We do not use that as an excuse to continue to do wrong but as an encouragement that His love will always be there.
Father, thank you for your faithful love! I now realize that my disobedience opened up the door for your discipline and my suffering. Forgive me for thinking that you had abandoned me when it was me who abandoned you and your word. Forgive me for not following your word with all my heart. For the mountain may move and the hills disappear, but even then your faithful love for me will remain. In Jesus name, amen!
