Hebrews 12:5-6 CEV

But you have forgotten that the Scriptures say to God’s children, “When the Lord punishes you, don’t make light of it, and when he corrects you, don’t be discouraged. The Lord corrects the people he loves and disciplines those he calls his own.”

Sometimes we can have the wrong impression about God’s love for us. It’s not all a lovey dovey type of love. When we are wrong, He will correct us. That correction does not always feel good or come at a convenient time. It’s truly a relationship between a Father and His children. A real father doesn’t allow his children to just do whatever they feel like and not tell them the truth while correcting them. A real father doesn’t just say they love their children without actions to back it up. Think about how you feel when you see children act up in public and the parents do nothing. They are just going along with their business like it’s another day in Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. Your first thought might be, “Oh that will could not be my child.” Your second thought might be, “There is no way that parent truly loves their children while allowing them to act so foolishly.” You know I’m right…LOL!

As we got older, we appreciated the discipline from our parents. It helped to shape us into the amazing adults we are now. We didn’t like it when it was happening but in retrospect, we realize that it was necessary for our future. It’s funny how we can accept the punishment from our parents but not our Creator. Beloved, don’t be fooled into thinking that God doesn’t have a right to punish us when we are wrong. It’s necessary for our future. A future that He knows the beginning and the ending too. Because of Jehovah’s unconditional love towards us, we also receive His necessary discipline. His love and His discipline go hand in hand. It’s a beautiful thing when you change your perspective about it.

Father, I thank you for your discipline. I know that I have not always liked or agreed with it but I know now that it was necessary for my future. Please forgive me for the wrong attitude about it and everything that I have said against it. God, I welcome your discipline for my life just as I do with your love. In Jesus name I pray, amen!
